The late-night show host and the “Avengers: Endgame” star teamed up once again to put their comedic talents on display to recreate the music video of the hit song by English pop band Dead or Alive.
Actor Paul Rudd was a guest on “The “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on April 25. Before his appearance, he and the TV host filmed a shot-by-shot recreation of the music video for “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).”
The result is a nearly identical remake of the classic 1985 video clip, with the British quartet reduced to a duo consisting on 50-year-old Rudd playing the part of lead singer Pete Burns and 44-year-old Fallon playing drummer Steve Coy.
Not only Rudd and Fallon nailed the glam look of the band members to the smallest detail, but they also used their actual singing voices, although filtered to give them a characteristic vintage sound.
We can tell that the two had a great time reviving the cringe-worthy dance moves and affected facial gestures that leave us that familiar feeling about a decade that hasn’t aged too well in many cases.
After the remake of the classic video was shown to the public, Rudd had the opportunity to discuss the piece with his partner in crime Fallon, who didn’t keep himself from making fun of the actor, who did most of the work.
“You were here all day yesterday doing that, and it was disturbing,” the former “Saturday Night Live” star teased.
“Very disturbing,” Rudd agreed. “It took a while — I didn’t realize, he’s hard to sing, Pete Burns,” he shared.
“He’s got such a strange vibrato. I think it took a couple hours ... and that poor crew, all day everyone was walking around, ‘Baby!’ We couldn’t get it out of our heads!” Rudd recalled.
It is not the first time the pair have fun together remaking old music videos. They did it first in 2016 with Styx’s “Too Much Time On My Hands” and again in 2018 with Go West’s “King of Wishful Thinking” from the “Pretty Woman” soundtrack.
Rudd was actually on the show to promote his latest blockbuster, the expected final installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Avengers: Endgame,” released on April 22 in the US and on April 24 internationally.
The actor, who reprised his role of Scott Lang/ Ant-Man for the third time in the most recent addition to the comic book-inspired superhero saga, told Fallon about how difficult it was to talk about a movie with so many spoilers.
“I’m just gonna keep my mouth shut. And I play it really safe. I don’t even talk about ‘The Sixth Sense,’ and that’s been out for years,” Rudd joked — If you didn’t understand the reference, we won’t spoil it for you either.
But there was a safe thing Rudd could reveal about the film, and it was that his two children “loved it.”
“They’re really into the [Marvel Cinematic Universe] and all of the films, and so we all went to the premiere together, and they were blown away,” Rudd said.
