Roy Clark

Roy Linwood  Clark was an American singer and musician. From 1969 through 1997, he was the host of Hee Haw, a nationally broadcast country variety show. Clark was a significant and influential character in country music, both as a musician and a figure who helped popularise the genre.

During the 1970s, Clark regularly guest-hosted The Tonight Show for Johnny Carson, and Hee Haw had a 30-million viewership. Clark was a well-known and respected guitarist, banjoist, and fiddler. He excelled at numerous genres, including classical guitar, country music, Latin music, bluegrass, and pop. As a pop performer, he had hit songs like "Yesterday, When I Was Young" and "Thank God and Greyhound," while his instrumental ability influenced generations of bluegrass and country musicians. In 1987, he was admitted into the Grand Ole Opry, and in 2009, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1994, he released his autobiography, My Life—in Spite of Myself.
