They were the undisputed teen queens from the 1970s!
Other than all of them being Oscar (only three) and Emmy (only two) winners what else do they have in common?
Which is your fav teen queen from the 1970s?
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 29, 2018 10:21 AM |
Tatum was great in Paper Moon, but it was sort of a rigged performance because she kept forgetting her lines required tons of takes. And aside from a passable performance in Bad New Bears, it was all down hill from there. Kristy acted circles around Tatum in Little Darlings, but Jodie was the undeniable 70s teen-queen, an acclaimed talent and the only real movie star of the bunch.

I'm a child of the 80s and even I know that Kristy McNichol was the undisputed teen queen.
Before there was Heathers, Clueless, or Easy A there was Little Darlings (the eldergay who even thinks of mentioning The Group can go clean his dentures).
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 14, 2013 5:16 PM |
I'm surprised Kristy is kicking Jodie's ass, not that I didn't love her too. And her coming out was a lot more sweet, she wanted to do her part to stop bullying, than Jodie's bizarre, bitter ramblings at the GGs.

Helen Hunt?!
Linda Blair should be in there. Hello, BORN INNOCENT, SARAH T. PORTRAIT OF AN ALCOHOLIC?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 14, 2013 5:39 PM |
I wondered about Helen Hunt too, so I checked imdb, and she was a steadily working child actress in the 70s, guest starring in many series. And she had a regular role in 3 series, but they were all 1 season and no one remembers them. I do remember her as a teen actress, but it wasn't until 1983 with the tv-movie Quarterback Princess. I don't think Helen was famous enough in the 70s to be compared to the other women. She didn't really become famous until Mad About You in 1992.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 14, 2013 5:52 PM |
Kristy was my "crush" in seventh grade. I had to beg my mom to let me stay up to watch "Family" on school nights. It aired at 9 or 10 pm Sundays for some time, if I remember right.
To her credit, and maybe because dad would kindly go up to bed to watch something else, mom usually let me watch with her.
However, if there was a "parental guidance is suggested" warning, I might have to go to bed or wait. "We'll see." Except when Nancy ("that pill" mom called her) was going to get an abortion, pretty much all the other restricted stuff was okay.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 14, 2013 5:58 PM |
Helen Hunt is losing badly, only 2% of the vote.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 14, 2013 6:34 PM |
Kristy and Jodie were very good at what they did and I like both of them. I was never that aware of Helen Hunt in the '70s, but she is also good. I never liked Tatum O'Neal and always thought her dad blew someone to get her that Oscar. It was a joke. The girl couldn't act her way out of a paper bag.

R8,
Heathers actually borrowed heavily from Massacre At Central High (1976), one of the first modern teen-angst-murderfests.
Some missing names from this list:
Brook Shields (as noted) Dana Plato Lisa Welchel Waltons/Prairie teens Charlene Tilton
(Still Kristy by a landslide)

by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 22, 2018 9:38 PM |
R40, it is a good question, what does Kristy do for money in 2018... could her earnings have been invested so well that she's set for life? The most recent press piece i found for her was from 2015. It's a People mag article... Kristy lives in LA and had gone back to college and that led her to join the school's choir (which she loved). She was working with a local foundation to raise money for low-income college students who were involved in music.
I check on her brother as well. He lives in Colorado, does construction. He's been married since 1997 and has a couple of kids.
It's nice to read that they both seemed to have moved on with their lives, right?

The state of CA real estate was such that if you bought a few or even one really good coastal property, you're set for life.
Maureen "Marcia Brady" says she came out of her child acting career with $400,000 and Johnny "Family Affair" Weissmuller said he came out with about $800,000. So using them as a base, and considering Kristy was later on when earnings were higher and she also worked in movies and later on in a TV series, she probably came about with over a million. She probably didn't waste hers on drugs as she was half crazy without them already.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 23, 2018 6:25 PM |
Hunt was on two short lived series, the Fitzpatricks and the Swiss Family Robinson. And she was also Murray's daughter on MTM and was with Kristy on Family and of course on Facts of Life in 1980

Kristy was obviously the '70s teen queen and a lot of it had to do with her sexually ambiguous looks. Young girls could get a crush on her because she looked like a cute boy. As an actress, no one in that group could touch her, not even Foster. The old acting cliche was true about McNichol. She never projected, she simply was the character.
Seriously, if there were teen queens, Blair would be in there as would Shields. Although she never came to the heights of those three, Mariel Hemingway would be an asterisk with Lipstick, Manhattan and that potboiler TV movie I want to keep my baby.

Helen Hunt wasn't really that popular in the 70s. She was on two failed TV shows and not too much else of note. Except an MTM as Murray's daughter whom he was saving up to buy a new coat for. Yet they still adopted that Vietnamese kid while not being able to provide for the other kids. Joyce Bulifant needed to get a job.

I always thought Tom boys were just going through A phase but now I think they grow up to b lesbians. Tatum was destined to b gay as her father was gay and only hung with lesbians like Farrah. Farrah only hung with gays like six million dollar man. Not a homophobic person, per se. The Nazis forced gays to have sex with Jewish women in concentration camps as conversion therapy. The homophobic Nazis were boiling their tentacles. I guess it is all relative what a homophobic person is. Cheers.
